A woman has been charged with animal cruelty after she threw a dog from the second-floor balcony during a police visit.
Police were called to a motel in Daytona Beach Florida on December 14 after the woman reportedly attacked a maid and was seen standing on the railing of the balcony threatening to jump, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
When police arrived at the scene the 35-year-old woman had locked herself in the room.
Body cams captured the officers knocking on the door when the woman suddenly swings opens the door and rushes out dragging a German shepherd on a lead.
Without hesitation the woman picks up the dog and throws it over the railing leaving the officers shocked.
Police immediately tackle the woman, handcuff her and take the woman into custody where she was charged with animal cruelty and resisting an officer with violence.
“Piece of s**t,” one of the officers can be heard saying as he struggles to handcuff the woman.
Police gave the dog the nickname ‘Miracle’ after she survived the fall, landing feet first.
Miracle was taken to Atlantic Animal Hospital in Port Orange for emergency evaluation where it was discovered she escaped serious injury from the fall.
During her examination an X-ray revealed a sewing needle was lodged in her right thigh.
Miracle underwent a procedure to safely remove the needle and is currently recovering with Animal Services.
A petition for custody over Miracle will be scheduled with the courts in the following weeks.
