Chelsea ended their campaign on a high note, defeating Bournemouth 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to secure European football next season.
Moises Caicedo opened the scoring 17 minutes in with a stunning goal from near the halfway line. Raheem Sterling doubled the lead three minutes into the second half. However, Benoit Badiashile’s own goal, deflecting Enes Unal’s shot, gave Bournemouth a lifeline. Chelsea finished the season in sixth place, securing a spot in the Europa Conference League. They could advance to the Europa League if Man City wins the FA Cup final. Bournemouth ended 12th with a club-record Premier League points tally.
How Chelsea Sealed Their Place in Europe
The Blues entered their final game in top form, seeking a fifth consecutive league win to ensure European qualification. They started strong, with early chances from Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer. Caicedo’s spectacular long-range goal came just past the quarter-hour mark, capitalizing on a weak clearance by Neto under pressure from Conor Gallagher.
Early in the second half, Palmer set up Sterling, who scored from a tight angle. Bournemouth quickly responded with Unal’s deflected strike. Both teams had opportunities to change the scoreline, with Dominic Solanke missing a crucial chance late on.
A standing ovation for Palmer capped the game, celebrating his involvement in 33 goals this season, including 22 goals.
