All facets of Pattaya industry, big and small, enthusiastically embraced the four-day Coronation Day weekend that started on Thursday, May 4, and ended on Sunday, May 7.
Hotel occupancy rates were close to 100%, and business at bars, restaurants, and retail establishments was booming. Little businesses and stalls on the streets and beaches also fared quite well, not to be outdone. The administration had already chosen to declare May 5 as a special public holiday, extending the weekend’s holiday break to four days, bridging the gap between Coronation Day on Thursday, May 4, and the weekend. The long weekend was expected to stimulate the economy through a variety of tourism-related activities.
The combined 4-day holiday, according to Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Traisaranakul, is anticipated to boost economic activity, particularly in the business and tourism sectors. She added that the early notification of the special holiday should enable governmental and commercial organizations to schedule their operations appropriately. With the addition of the holiday, there will now be a total of 24 days this year, or 19 public holidays plus compensating holidays.
