Officials at the Pattaya City Police Station received a report on Sunday, March 10, about the discovery of a foreigner’s body in a grove off Soi Thepprasit 9.
Accompanied by tourist police and rescue workers, they ventured into a vast area exceeding 20 rai. After a short walk of 20-30 meters into the grove, they found the body of a foreigner hanging. The deceased, identified as Mr. Mikhail, a 34-year-old Russian national, had no identifying documents on him. However, a mobile phone in his jeans pocket and a water bottle nearby provided some clues.
Subsequently, a thorough investigation was conducted, and Mr. Mikhail was revealed to have arrived in Thailand on January 20, 2024, with permission to stay until April 18. The authorities then sent the body for an autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Police Hospital in Bangkok.
Mr. Chusak Saetiao, a 46-year-old villager who was alerted to the situation, shared that early in the morning, a motorbike taxi driver rushed to inform him about the discovery. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that a foreigner was indeed found deceased. The incident took place on a route frequently used by foreigners, particularly Russians. Mr. Saetiao mentioned hearing dogs barking around 9-10 p.m. the night before the incident but did not investigate at the time.
Further examination of CCTV footage in the vicinity revealed the foreigner entering the grove around 3:38 a.m. He had a mobile phone torch lit, a water bottle in hand, and after glancing into the grove, he walked in and did not return. The same sequence repeated at 3:39 a.m.
Authorities are planning to collaborate with tourism and immigration police to determine the cause of death and will also inform the Russian Embassy accordingly.
