A tourist was rescued after getting into difficulty in the sea off Patong Beach in Phuket on Wednesday.

Pol Sen Sgt Maj Boonyarit Intakarn, who was on duty at the beach, said Lawrence Ho, 50, was on vacation with his wife.

The couple, who are from Hong Kong, were booked to stay at Merlin Beach Resort from Tuesday to Friday.

Mr Ho was seen floundering desperately in the sea and was pulled to safety by beach lifeguards.

Pol Sen Sgt Maj Boonyarit said he was taken to Patong Hospital where he was recovering.

Mr Ho was the second Chinese tourist to be saved from drowning in Phuket this week.

On Tuesday, Dong Xuyan was resuscitated back to life after drowning off Nai Harn beach.
