Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested on suspicion of rape, according to Norwegian police. Høiby was taken into custody for violations related to the criminal code concerning “sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or otherwise unable to resist.”
Authorities specified that he is accused of committing a “sexual act without intercourse” on a victim described as being unable to resist. The alleged victim, a woman in her 20s, had no prior acquaintance with Høiby before meeting him on the day of the incident, as confirmed by her lawyer, Hege Salomon.
Høiby was arrested late on Monday night and was being held in a detention center as of Tuesday morning. His attorney, Øyvind Bratlien, stated that Høiby denies the allegations.
Norwegian public broadcaster NRK has reported that Høiby has been charged with multiple offenses involving five individuals—four women and one man. It was revealed that three of the women have been in relationships with Høiby, and he is accused of abuse against all three.
In August, Høiby faced charges of assault and criminal damage following a violent altercation at an Oslo apartment allegedly involving one of the women. Authorities noted that she was in a vehicle with him at the time of his arrest.
Additionally, Høiby is charged with threatening to kill a man in his 20s. His lawyer mentioned that Høiby admits guilt only for a specific instance of bodily harm against his last girlfriend along with criminal damage and threats, but denies criminal responsibility for the other allegations.
The Royal House of Norway has declined to comment on the ongoing situation when approached by CNN.
