A once-respected crocodile expert was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison on Thursday for a series of heinous crimes, including the sexual abuse and killing of dozens of dogs.
Adam Britton, 53, had pleaded guilty to 63 charges related to bestiality, animal cruelty, and possession of child abuse material.
Northern Territory Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Grant, who presided over the sentencing, condemned Britton’s actions as “unspeakable” and “grotesque.”
According to Australia’s national broadcaster ABC, Britton acquired 42 dogs online between 2020 and 2022, convincing their owners that he would provide the animals with a “good home.” Instead, he filmed himself raping and killing the dogs in a shipping container on his property in Darwin. The disturbing footage was then shared on Telegram.
Britton was arrested by police in 2022.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Britton was a well-known crocodile expert in Australia and had collaborated on several productions with the BBC and National Geographic.
He will be eligible for parole in April 2028 and has been permanently banned from owning mammals for the rest of his life.
