A computer repair technician, Mr. Wiwatthanasak Srithong, 23, was severely injured in an attack on a street in Pattaya on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024. The incident happened around 12:20 PM in front of a hardware store on Soi Bunsamphan 9 in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. The assailant accused Mr. Wiwatthanasak of talking to his wife.
Rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon responded to the scene, finding Mr. Wiwatthanasak with a deep wound near his left eye caused by a metal key. He was immediately taken to Banglamung Hospital.
Mr. Wiwatthanasak recounted that he was riding a motorcycle with his employer to open their computer repair shop when a Thai man, aged between 35-40, attempted to cut them off and forced them to stop. Not recognizing the stranger, Mr. Wiwatthanasak decided to drive away. However, as they neared the hardware store, a car reversed into the road, making them slow down.
The attacker used this moment to pull alongside Mr. Wiwatthanasak’s motorcycle, repeatedly accusing him of speaking to his wife before punching him in the face with a key. Mr. Wiwatthanasak tried to defend himself, but the assailant continued the assault and threatened to shoot him if he continued to talk to his wife. Mr. Wiwatthanasak denied the accusation, stating that the woman had actually tried to borrow money from him.
CCTV footage from the area captured the attack, showing the assailant chasing Mr. Wiwatthanasak on his motorcycle and striking him multiple times before fleeing. Pattaya police advised Mr. Wiwatthanasak to obtain a medical report and file a complaint. They have identified a potential suspect from the motorbike’s registration plate and expect to apprehend him soon to face legal charges.
