A rampaging Swedish tourist went on a motorcycle-stealing spree in Pattaya early Sunday morning, eventually crashing into several cars and injuring himself.
The incident began around 12:05 AM on June 2nd when CCTV footage captured the topless tourist, identified by Pattaya police as Mr. Oliver Joakim Stare, 34, running up behind a motorcycle taxi driver and grabbing his motorcycle while the driver stopped to buy something at a shop. The man then sped away.
The incident took place on Soi Noen Plub Wan in Pattaya. The motorcycle taxi driver, Mr. Thosaporn Meesamut, 45, told local media that the tourist, who was wearing only shorts, waved him down, but he refused to pick him up as the man seemed unstable and erratic. However, the tourist ran after him, bumped into him from behind while he was at the shop, and then stole his motorbike. Mr. Thosaporn tried to chase after him but was unable to catch him.
According to reports, Mr. Stare then drove the stolen motorcycle around Pattaya before allegedly stealing another motorcycle. He crashed the last motorcycle into several cars in Central Pattaya and injured his head.
Mr. Stare then went to a random hotel in the Na Jomtien area and asked for help from the security guards. He claimed that he was attacked, but the guards did not believe him and called the police, eventually putting an end to his motorcycle-stealing spree. The police arrived and took Mr. Stare to the Na Jomtien Police Station.
Mr. Stare is currently being held in custody pending further investigation. He is expected to be tested for illegal drugs and interviewed to determine what led to his bizarre behavior before police file multiple legal charges against him.
