The Thai government has introduced an Assistance Scheme for Foreign Tourist Injury and Casualty, delivering financial support to foreign tourists impacted by accidents or losses during their visit to Thailand. Eligible tourists may seek compensation for incidents not attributed to their own negligence, encompassing bodily harm, theft, rape, and public endangerment.
Coverage includes death or dismemberment, permanent disability, eyesight loss, total disability impeding occupational duties, as well as medical and domestic transportation expenses within Thailand. The scheme allows tourists with existing insurance to claim the difference up to specified limits, with claims required to be submitted within 15 days of the incident.
Compensation details are as follows: up to 1,000,000 baht per person for death or dismemberment, 300,000 baht for permanent disability or eyesight loss, and up to 500,000 baht for medical and domestic transportation expenses within Thailand. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will make final decisions on compensation, and applications can be submitted online or via mail. The deadline for compensation claims pertaining to incidents occurring from January 1, 2024, is September 15, 2024.
