The moving walkway incident at Don Mueang Airport might have been caused by falling object

The moving walkway disaster at Don Mueang International Airport may have been brought on by a sudden falling object, according to the Engineer Institute of Thailand (EIT). On June 29, 2023, a female traveler at the Don Mueang International Airport lost her lower leg after she slipped and became trapped in a moving walkway.

After the accident, a group of engineers from the EIT joined in the inspection and checked the moving walkway. According to Mr. Boonphong Kitwattanachai, a mechanical engineering committee advisor, “We have verified and examined the walkway maintenance report from the airport.

Before going into service, the moving walkway was tested everyday. It is improbable that a lack of maintenance contributed to the accident. After inspecting the damaged end of the walkway, we came to the conclusion that perhaps something had fallen into the device’s end and left a gap there.

Before the woman fell, a suitcase wheel became jammed in the opening, trapping the passenger’s leg. However, Mr. Boonphong continued, “The inquiry to determine the precise reason of the tragedy will continue.
