With new flights to London Gatwick, Air India improves connectivity to the UK.
There are now 49 flights per week on the airline’s UK network.
By beginning additional routes to London Gatwick, the UK’s second-largest airport, Air India has increased its reach within the country. While the majority of its flights to the UK still go to Heathrow, it now also connects four Indian cities to Gatwick as part of its transformation goal to expand its global network.
Good day, Gatwick!
Air India has increased its presence in the UK by establishing four new routes, switching them from London Heathrow, and operating on each route three times per week from London Gatwick to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Cochin, and Goa. On March 26, flights to Ahmedabad and Amritsar began, while on March 27, flights to Kochi began. On March 28, a new Gatwick-Goa service will begin.
As of March 26th, Air India will increase its weekly frequency from London Heathrow by five, with an increase in the number of flights to Delhi from 14 to 17 and to Mumbai from 12 to 14. According to Air India, the addition of new services and a larger fleet will likely result in the creation of close to 500 jobs in the UK. According to Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD of Air India,
“We want to considerably improve connectivity between India’s major cities and top worldwide destinations as part of our five-year transformation plan, Vihaan.AI, and be recognized as India’s Flying Ambassador to the world.” Additionally, these flights will meet the rising demand for direct air connections between the UK and these well-known Indian cities as well as between significant Indian destinations.
Return of the Boeing 777 to Heathrow
For many years, Air India has reserved the majority of its Boeing 777 fleet for US operations. Air India deploys its Dreamliners to Europe, Australia, and the Middle East, with the exception of Washington, D.C.
Nonetheless, the airline has stated that it intends to modernize its fleet with Boeing 777 aircraft on London Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai routes, initially on the Delhi route, starting in May 2023. Passengers traveling to the UK will be able to resume using first class service thanks to this.
There are currently 49 flights by Air India to the UK. The airline will offer 12 weekly flights to Gatwick, with three flights each Monday, Thursday, and Saturday from Amritsar and nine additional flights each week from Ahmedabad, Goa, and Kochi. Moreover, there are six flights to Birmingham and 31 flights every week from Delhi and Mumbai to London Heathrow.
rising quickly
The Tata Group didn’t take long to improve Air India’s global offerings. In recent months, it has added more widebodies and brought several of the carrier’s grounded fleet’s aircraft back into operation. In addition to increasing the number of flights from Mumbai and Bengaluru to the US, the airline now offers 80 weekly flights to seven significant UK and European cities, including Milan, Vienna, and Copenhagen.
