Shocking moment delivery driver is catapulted 10ft into the air when a manhole cover explodes as she rides her scooter over it in Thailand

Rateeanothai Lhomwandee, 22, was travelling along the road when she passed over the faulty drain in Lampang, northern Thailand on December 26.

Footage shows a fleet of motorbikes riding along a busy street in the Thai city.

Cars are seen crossing the manhole, just as the delivery woman starts to come into view.

Seconds later, Rateeanothai drives across the cover, with a bright pink food panda package hoisted on the back, before being catapulted off her bike.

She is dramatically flung 10ft in the air and lands on her backside while her motorcycle somersaults several times.

Moments later, the bike crashes down beside her on the street.

A rider, who was travelling behind, also falls off their vehicle and smacks on to the road.

Emergency services are then seen in the cornered off area of the accident and take photographs of the manhole.

Miraculously, Rateeanothai was not seriously hurt and only suffered a cut on her chin and other bruises. A second rider was also knocked over but not hurt.

Police Major General Anucha Auamcharoen investigated the scene and said the local authority overseeing this drain should take responsibility.

He said: ‘From our initial investigation, we believe this was a gas explosion caused by pressure from inside the sewer.

‘We have identified the authority who is responsible for this.

‘We will question the bystanders and contact this authority to discuss the problem and request they compensate the victim.’

It is thought there was a build up of gases which caused the lid to blow open.

Police corner off the scene of the accident and are said to be approaching the relevant authority to request compensation for the victim
