Swiss man wanted in Brazil for attempted murder tracked down

A 56-year-old Swiss national, wanted by Interpol and facing arrest warrant in Brazil for attempted murder, was arrested at his Thai wife’s home in Chiang Mai’s Saraphi district, Immigration Police chief Lt-General Sompong Chingduang told the press on August 22.

He said Brazilian police had contacted their Thai counterparts to help find the man and have him extradited to face prosecution.

The man identified by Thai police only as Roger (last name withheld) faces the allegation of assaulting the victim at a bar on March 28, 2004, and then, at the second scene in a house, hitting the victim with a wooden chair and then throwing the unconscious victim out of a window.

This resulted in the victim sustaining serious spinal injuries, triggering partial paralysis.

Investigators found that the suspect last entered Thailand on July 19 and has been living with his Thai wife in a housing estate in Chiang Mai. Police have revoked the man’s visa and are holding him in detention pending extradition.
