15 Myanmar migrants arrested in Tak

A total of 15 Myanmar migrants were arrested in two separated busts in the border province of Tak yesterday on charges of forging and using fake Thai visa stamps. Police believed that these people were involved with a human trafficking gang that smuggled people through Thailand to Malaysia, Tak Immigration Superintendent Pol Colonel Man Rattanapratheep said.

The four Myanmar persons holding passports with fake visa stamps were arrested at the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge border checkpoint, while the other 11 Myanmar people were nabbed on the same charges at the Mae Sot Airport, he said, adding police were investigating to arrest more of their accomplices.

In related news, six unregistered Myanmar workers were rounded up in Mae Sot district in another bust by Tak Immigration Police yesterday on the charge of working without permission or working in the other jobs beyond what were registered in their permits. They were forwarded to the local police for legal action.
