The headman of a village was shot dead by a gunman in a mosque in Sai Buri district of this southern border province on Saturday aftermoon, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 6.55 pm while Kumaroding Nitae, chief of Ban Cho Bo, was inside the village mosque for a religious activity.
At the time, two men arrived on a motorcycle. The pillion rider walked into the mosque and opened fire at the village chief in the back of his head, killing him instantly.
The assailant fled on the waiting motorcycle.
Police were investigating whether the killing was related to terrorism in the region.
