Thousands of meth pills found in abandoned backpack

 Police seized 30,000 methamphetamine pills stuffed in a school backpack found abandoned on a roadside in Nam Phong district on Sunday morning.

The purple backpack was found by a local resident out cycling for exercise, police said.

Sangkhom Khao-aroonrung, a resident of Moo 12 village in tambon Muang Wan, noticed the backpack at a spot between kilometre markers 2 and 3 on Nam Phong-Ubonrat road, Pol Lt Col Prayut Khambonpitak, deputy chief investigator of Nam Phong police, said.

He opened the backpack and found numerous packages wrapped with brown paper.

He called Paisong Naree, the kamnan of tambon Muang Wan, and informed her of the discovery. Ms Paisong then alerted the police.

When a police arrived, they found in the backpack 15 bundles, each containing 2,000 meth pills, or 30,000 in total.

The backpack and the meth pills were brought to Nam Phong police station for further examination and to look for fingerprints.
