Grab Thailand has discovered that flower garlands are the most popular thing Thais are purchasing for Songkran, the first official celebration following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Grab Thailand’s head of marketing, Panomkorn Jirasatienpong, stated on Tuesday that the business anticipates this year’s traditional New Year celebration to be more exuberant and extravagant than previous year due to the return of international tourists and the restoration of normalcy.
According to a recent GrabMart poll, the top five most often requested commodities on the platform are fruit baskets, white-clay powder, bird’s nest drinks, Malai flower garlands, incense, and perfumes.
They are all Songkran-related goods; the powdered white clay is used to smear faces during Songkran water wars, and the other four are customary gifts for older family members.
One of Thailand’s most significant holidays, Songkran has a significant impact on the way of life and spending patterns of Thai people, according to Panomkorn.
Throughout Thai New Year, sales on Grab’s platforms, such as GrabMart and GrabFood, traditionally increase, but according to the business, this year is showing particularly high activity.
According to Panomkorn, this shows that individuals are more likely to spend money this Songkran.
Grab Thailand has launched the “GrabMart Songkran” promotion campaign in response, working with local retailers statewide. Popular seasonal fruits like durian, mango, and mariam plums are among the products on display, along with necessary Songkran accessories like water pistols, floral blouses, goggles, and water-resistant purses. The marketing includes must-have elephant pants, which are well-liked by tourists from other countries.
Throughout April, Panomkorn was eager to promote GrabMart specials.
“Participating businesses are offering discounts of up to 20%, while GrabMart members can enjoy an additional 15% discount of up to 100 baht when they spend a minimum of 400 baht by using promo code SK100.”
Any orders placed between April 3 and April 30 will also receive free delivery for GrabUnlimited subscribers.
According to Kantar research, GrabMart was Thailand’s top grocery app last year.
In 500 cities across eight Southeast Asian nations—Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—Grab provides delivery, mobility, and digital financial services.
