According to a government official on Sunday, the Public Health Ministry is putting into action a five-year development strategy for traditional Thai medicine to promote wellness travel.
Anucha Burapachaisri said that Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the outgoing prime minister, had acknowledged the five-year plan (2023-2027) for directing local traditional and alternative medicine to produce income for the nation.
In order to draw more foreign tourists to the Kingdom, the initiative seeks to improve health security while maintaining herbal medical knowledge.
The strategy has three key goals:
– To provide treatment programs for persons with drug addiction, sleep difficulties, and chronic pain.
– To guarantee the good manufacturing practice (GMP) standard is followed by hospitals and factories that produce herbal medication. The GMP standard is met by 45 out of the 61 public hospitals that now produce herbal medicines, and seven more are being improved.
– To build Thai wellness facilities that will draw both domestic and international visitors. 160 of the 570 Thai wellness centers in the nation have received certification under the program thus far.
Anucha added that the five-year strategy has three main objectives:
– To promote public trust in traditional Thai medicine and raise the percentage of individuals utilizing herbal remedies to treat minor illnesses from the current 1.48% to 15%.
– To reach a 20% rise in the number of persons who currently seek treatment from practitioners of traditional medicine.
– To reach 90 billion baht in annual sales of medicinal herbs in the nation by 2027.
According to him, interim PM Prayut was optimistic that the initiative would increase local wisdom and increase foreign tourists’ trust in Thai wellness tourism.
