Thailand move closer to 2026 Fifa World Cup

Thailand’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup were restored on Tuesday when they defeated Singapore 3-1.

After Supachok Sarachat gave the visitors the lead after just five minutes, Suphanat Muenta scored twice for the War Elephants at Singapore National Stadium in the 66th and 87th minutes.

In the 41st minute of a Group C encounter of Asia’s second qualifying round for the 2026 championships, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Shawal Anuar scored for the Lions.

Thailand and their coach, Mano Polking needed a win in Singapore to get their campaign back on track after losing to China in Bangkok in their opening game last week. They rightfully achieved the desired outcome.

In Shenzhen, South Korea defeated China 3-0 in the other Group C match.

Son Heung-Min of Tottenham scored twice in the first half, and Jung Seung-Hyun added the last goal in the 87th minute to complete the demolition.

South Korea leads Thailand and China by three points after two games.

After losing their first game 5-0 against South Korea, Singapore has yet to secure a point.

There are nine groups, and the top two teams in each go on to the next round.
