Thailand has just entered rain season with floods in Pattaya

Following Thailand’s formal transition to the rainy season on May 22, last night’s rains caused flooding in a number of Pattaya locations.

Areas include Sukhumvit Road, South Pattaya, Pattaya Beach Road, Third Road near the Paniat Chang intersection, Moom Aroi intersection and the road along the railway. They had  been inundated by last night’s (May 23rd, 2023) rain which lasted for about an hour and was accompanied by strong winds.

Around 9:30 PM, there was a significant amount of rain. Reports stated that the flood level in several areas was over 30 cm to one meter high. However, both the storm and the flooding swiftly subsided because of the new larger drains  which appeared to be effective in draining the water considerably more quickly than in previous years. The rainstorm arrived after the start of Thailand’s rainy season on May 22nd. Mid-October is anticipated to be the conclusion of the wet season in the nation. According to the Meteorological Department, however, the rain will persist throughout southern Thailand, particularly in the southeast coastal districts, until mid-January of 2024.
