There were 4,306 new Covid-19 cases and 37 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.

There were 4,183 cases in the general population and 123 among prison inmates.

The number of new cases declined from 4,753 announced on Monday, when the country recorded 27 more deaths.

On Monday, 6,407 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 2,087,009 Covid-19 patients, 1,992,002 of whom have recovered to date.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 2,115,872 Covid-19 cases, with 2,019,428 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 20,677 during the third wave and 20,771 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 37 new fatalities were between the ages of 46 and 95 years old and included one Myanmar national.

Bangkok recorded six more deaths while other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded five more deaths – in Chanthaburi (1), Chon Buri (1), Nakhon Nayok (1), Saraburi (1) and Sing Buri (1).

The South reported 16 additional deaths – in Songkhla (4), Nakhon Si Thammarat (3), Chumphon (2), Pattani (2), Satun (2), Trang (1), Yala (1) and Ranong (1).

The North saw five more fatalities – in Tak (2), Uttaradit (2) and Nakhon Sawan (1).

The Northeast had five fatalities – in Udon Thani (4) and Chaiyaphum (1).

The 4,306 new cases included 4,175 local infections and eight imported cases. Of the local infections, 4,054 were confirmed at hospitals and 121 via mass testing.

Bangkok had 740 new cases, followed by 307 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 247 each in Songkhla and Surat Thani, 170 in Chon Buri, 167 in Chiang Mai, 119 in Samut Prakan, 98 in Trang, 96 in Pattani and 93 in Krabi.

The eight imported cases were from Spain (1), the United States (1), Belgium (3), Russia (2), and Myanmar (1).

Since the country reopened to visitors on Nov 1, 128,466 people have arrived by air and 166 of them (0.13%) were confirmed with Covid-19, as of midnight.

On Monday 75,673 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 77,811), including 1,353 seriously ill patients (down from 1,369) and 329 dependent on ventilators (down from 330).

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 442,566 in 24 hours to 262.36 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 5,392 to 5.22 million
