There were 12,697 new Covid-19 cases and 132 more fatalities registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.
There were 12,527 cases in the general population and 170 among prison inmates.
The new cases fell from 13,256 new Covid cases announced on Thursday, when the country also reported 131 more deaths.
On Wednesday, 13,540 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,508,447 Covid-19 patients, 1,366,476 of whom have recovered to date.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,537,310 Covid-19 cases, with 1,393,902 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 15,922 during the third wave and 16,016 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.
The 132 new fatalities (up from 131 on the previous day) were aged 30 to 99 years, and included two Myanmar nationals and one each of French, British, Indian and Lao nationalities. One death was a pregnant woman in Narathiwat who had not been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Bangkok continued to log the most new deaths, 31 (up from 21) while a further 24 were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (12), Pathum Thani (7), Nakhon Pathom (4) and Samut Sakhon (1).
Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 31 more deaths – in Chon Buri (7), Suphan Buri (4), Ayutthaya (3), Phetchaburi (3), Saraburi (3), Ratchaburi (2), Rayong (2), Prachin Buri (2), Lop Buri (2), Nakhon Nayok (1), Sa Kaeo (1) and Chachoengsao (1).
The Northeast had four more fatalities – in Ubon Ratchathani (1), Yasothon (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1) and Udon Thani (1).
The South reported 30 more deaths – in Narathiwat (8), Pattani (4), Chumphon (4), Surat Thani (4), Phuket (3), Nakhon Si Thammarat (3), Songkhla (2), Krabi (1) and Yala (1).
The North saw 12 new fatalities – in Tak (4), Lamphun (4), Chiang Mai (1), Nakhon Sawan (1), Kamphaeng Phet (1) and Chiang Rai (1).
The 12,697 new cases included 12,516 local infections and 11 imported cases.
Of the local infections, 11,313 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,203 via mass testing.
Bangkok had 2,239 new cases (down from 2,456 on the previous day), followed by 897 in Chon Buri (up from 743), 758 in Samut Prakan (down from 991), 675 in Yala (up from 663), 556 in Rayong (up from 549), 555 in Songkhla (up from 388), 439 in Narathiwat (up from 403), 365 in Ratchaburi (up from 323), 294 in Tak (up from 148) and 270 in Nakhon Ratchasima (up from 221).
Greater Bangkok reported 3,721 new cases (down from 4,174) and 55 new deaths (down from 60). Four southern border provinces had 1,919 new cases (up from 1,687) and 15 new fatalities (up from 10), while 67 other provinces recorded 6,876 new cases (down from 6,903) and 61 new deaths (up from 58).
The 11 imported cases were from Japan (1), Cambodia (8) and Malaysia (2).
On Wednesday 127,392 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 128,367 on the previous day), including 3,377 seriously ill patients (down from 3,422) and 743 dependent on ventilators (down from 747).
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 513,931 in 24 hours (down from 528,265 on the previous day) to 231.39 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 8,680 (down from 9,319) to 4.74 million.
The United States had the most cases at 43.53 million, up 127,463 (down from 133,620), and the most deaths at 702,978, up 1,974 (down from 2,228).
