A 29-year-old male of Thai-Iranian origin was detained by the police after allegedly assaulting his 40-year-old Iranian companion while they were buying fried chicken, purportedly in retaliation to insulting remarks. He repeatedly stabbed the victim in Chon Buri, and the patient is currently in critical condition.
CCTV images from Sunday, June 4 at 02:00 PM showed two males riding a motorcycle onto Chon Buri’s Soi Jomtien 13. The assailant left the bike while his companion stayed seated. Then the culprit came up behind the victim, put his arm over his neck, and repeatedly stabbed him with a sharp weapon.
The victim was left to beg for assistance from neighbors while the attacker departed on the victim’s motorcycle. Following a police inquiry yesterday, the suspect turned himself in and produced a 15-centimeter long, sharp metal instrument that was allegedly used in the attack.
According to the suspect, the argument started when they both went to get fried chicken from a well-known brand. The victim allegedly made a mocking remark about the purchase, stating, “It’s like buying chicken to feed a dog.” The two then got into a fight as they were traveling back to their destination. Before turning on the victim and repeatedly stabbing him, the perpetrator motioned for him to pull over.
Pattaya City Police Chief Colonel Tanapong Potitian said his team had been carefully looking into the issue before the attacker surrendered. The police will follow the legal process after charging the defendant with attempted murder for using a weapon to stab a crucial body area. It appears that a personal conflict was the cause of the incident.
The knife attack in Chon Buri is the second in as many days. A Thai woman and her foreign boyfriend got into a heated argument on Sunday in Pattaya that ended with her stabbing him in the leg. She quickly ran away, leaving the knife still in his calf. When Sawang Boriboon rescuers arrived to save him at 11 p.m. on Sunday, the unnamed foreign man had a kitchen knife embedded in his left leg.
The event happened on Soi Buakhao in South Pattaya, Nongprue Subdistrict, Banglamung District, Chon Buri Province, a busy public location.
