Thai bus driver suspended for using phone whilst driving
A Thai male has been suspended from his job as a public bus driver after being filmed using his phone whilst driving.
A public bus driver was fined 5,000 baht and suspend from driving for 30 days for using his smartphone while driving by Khon Kaen transport office.
The operator of the bus service was also fined 10,000 baht for not abiding public safety.
The image of the bus driver using his smartphone behind the wheels which was taken by one of the passengers and posted on the social media attracted a lot of criticism against the conduct of the driver whose identity was not disclosed.
Khon Kaen transport official Mr Virote Viriyachan told the media on Monday that he had invited both the driver and the bus operator to his office to be informed of the driver’s conduct and the criticism against him by netizens.
The driver admitted his misconduct and promised not to repeat it again, but he was fined 5,000 baht anyway for using a mobile phone while driving.
The bus operator reportedly told the transport official that his company has about 70 drivers and he had always reminded them of the safety of passengers. Nevertheless, he was fined 10,000 baht.
