Sirichai Nathuang, 21 wanted unprotected sex with younger students

A high-profile Thammasat University student activist and former leader of the Dome Revolution Party has been criticised on Twitter for allegedly pressuring a younger female student to have unprotected sex with him.

Sirichai Nathuang, 21, has since cut ties with the party and been stripped of his membership of the student movement known as the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration.

He also lost his seat on the Thammasat University Student Council.

Mr Sirichai, who also goes by the name New Mor Thor, allegedly manipulated the woman to have unprotected sex with him by claiming he was allergic to condoms and could not find one that fitted him.

As the story went viral, #chaenewmorthor turned into one of the top trending topics on the Thai-language version of Twitter with over 47,800 tweets as of last evening.

The Dome Revolution Party later said the student had resigned as party president and as a member of the Thammasat University Student Council due to his behaviour.

The party offered its condolences to the victim and promised to offer her its full support if she decided to pursue legal action against Mr Sirichai.

She has not yet filed any charges against him.

Mr Sirichai later posted comments on his Facebook account where he admitted his wrongdoing and said he felt guilty about his actions.

He said he would resign from all student activist groups.ad

Panasaya “Rung” Sitthijirawattanakul, a pro-democracy protest leader and member of the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration, said she was disappointed with Mr Sirichai’s conduct.

She also promised to support the victim during a disciplinary probe and any subsequent action.

This is not the first time Mr Sirichai has courted controversy. On Jan 13 of last year he faced a charge of lese majeste in violation of Section 112 of the Criminal Code.
