Early Thursday morning, a 60-year-old British man’s suicide attempt was thwarted by a vigilant security guard who spotted him in an abandoned high-rise building. Wacharapol Khatti, a 43-year-old guard at the Waterfront residential project, detected the sound of footsteps on steel sheets in the building around 1:30 am. Upon shining his flashlight toward the noise, he spotted the elderly man on the second floor.
Inquiring about the man’s intentions, Mr. Wacharapol was informed of his suicidal plans. Swiftly intervening, the guard managed to dissuade him from the attempt, but the man found himself disoriented, unable to locate the stairs to descend.
Subsequently, law enforcement officers arrived and spent approximately 30 minutes persuading him to vacate the premises, noting his intoxicated state.
