After forcingfully pushing flowers and sweets to visitors, migrant beggars, most of whom are Vietnamese, have become a nuisance in Pattaya. Several South Pattaya locals who live close to Walking Street told the local media that they have grown tired of the foreign beggars.
They said that these beggars, some of whom carried infants to arouse sympathy, prowled through congested tourist areas in Pattaya and attempted to coercively sell flowers and candy to foreign visitors. Tourists have been quite irritated by this, and the city’s reputation has been damaged.
Because these groups of foreigners had been detained numerous times but keep doing the same offense, the locals felt there was an organized organization behind these beggars. Since some of the women involved have been around for years and constantly seem to have a new infant child with them, doubts about the children’s status also come up.
Many times, beggars enter establishments without being invited, particularly bars and restaurants, and bother patrons while they are eating or drinking, irritating both the establishment’s proprietors and the patrons.
A lion performer was ejected from a pub in May by Pattaya Police, who also took him into custody for agitating tourists.
Residents of Pattaya encouraged the appropriate authorities to make more of an effort to deal with these beggars. Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
