Carlos Ghosn sues Nissan for 1 Billion USD

According to a copy of the case seen by Reuters, former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn has filed a lawsuit against the corporation with Lebanon’s public prosecutor seeking more than $1 billion in damages.

Nissan (NSANF), two other businesses, and 12 named individuals are charged with offenses such as defamation, slander, libel, and fabricating substantial evidence in the case, which was filed on May 18.

The prosecutor is due to appear in court on September 18 to start the process, according to a source in the legal system.

According to a Nissan spokeswoman, the Japanese business won’t be making any comments on the situation.

Ghosn, who was once a titan of the international auto industry, was taken into custody in Japan in late 2018 and accused of financial malfeasance. He refuted the accusation and said that Nissan executives were behind his imprisonment in order to thwart a merger.

In December 2019, he fled from Japan to Lebanon, where he had spent his formative years, while concealed inside a box on a private plane.

Accusations of underreporting profits, violation of trust, and misuse of corporate cash were the basis of Ghosn’s pending trial in Japan, which he has repeatedly denied.

Ghosn declared upon his arrival in Lebanon that he was fleeing a “rigged” legal system in Japan and intended to clear his name.
