Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin on Tour

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced during his tour of Northern Thailand that Chiang Mai province is slated to host the Formula E racing event in the early part of next year. The event, which features electric vehicles, is part of a strategy to promote electric vehicle use as a means to combat the persistent issue of PM2.5 air pollution plaguing the province.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns over the high levels of air pollution in Chiang Mai, which have led to calls for the area to be declared an emergency zone. However, the premier expressed reservations about such a declaration, suggesting it might lead to more adverse effects. Srettha noted that the government has a variety of dust management strategies at its disposal but remains open to recommendations from all quarters.

Prime Minister Srettha assured that the government’s final decision would reflect the most advantageous approach to eventually tackling the longstanding air quality challenges in Chiang Mai and the entire North.

Wrapping up his day’s activities, Srettha visited Chiang Mai’s Central Festival Shopping Mall to check out local community products available for sale. Accompanied by a team of government officials, the premier toured various stores within the mall, engaging with citizens and participating in cordial photo sessions.
