Police swoop on pyramid scam suspect

Authorities have raided a Ratchaburi house belonging to a key recruiter for the Mae Manee Ponzi scheme network.

The woman allegedly helped her boss cheat people out billions of baht.

The Department of Special Investigation probing the case said it has not yet filed charges against the latest suspect, Chuthathip “Manao” Nimnuan, as it is waiting to identify other recruiters.

“We’ll press charges against them altogether in April,” Piyasiri Wattanavarangkul, chief of the DSI’s Bureau of Illegal Financial and Business Crimes, said after a search on Ms Chuthathip’s house in Ratchaburi on Wednesday.

The recruiters worked for Wantanee “Mae Manee” Tippaveth by fooling people into making large investments with promises of high returns of up to 93%.

Wednesday’s inspection of Ms Chuthathip’s personal items uncovered details of bank accounts and documents showing financial transactions, Mr Piyasiri said.

Ms Wantanee and her boyfriend Metee Chinpa were arrested in Chon Buri in October. Prosecutors are examining allegations against her while she is under detention.

Ms Wantanee, 28, is accused of deceiving people through the pyramid scheme. Nearly 4,000 people fell prey to the gang which allegedly caused 2 billion baht in damage, authorities said last month.
