Police Hunt Delivery Rider Disguised as Gold Thief
Gold Heist at Mae Sot Mall
TAK: A robber dressed as a delivery rider made off with gold necklaces worth 4.7 million baht after holding up a gold shop in a Mae Sot mall on Sunday.
Swift and Bold Robbery
The suspect targeted the Orasa 5 gold shop inside the Lotus store in Mae Sot district around 7:12 p.m., according to Pol Col Sarayut Plaengpanya, deputy commissioner of Provincial Police Region 6.
Described as a man in his 30s, about 170 cm tall, he wore a green-and-white delivery rider’s jacket, a full-face helmet, and black gloves. Armed with a pistol, he threatened the shop’s staff before jumping over the counter to access the gold necklace displays. Terrified customers and employees ran from the store in panic.
Getaway and Investigation
The entire robbery lasted just one minute. A subsequent check revealed that the suspect had escaped with gold necklaces valued at approximately 4.72 million baht, which he stashed in his rucksack.
CCTV footage confirmed that the suspect acted alone and fled the scene on a cream Yamaha Fino motorcycle. Police are actively investigating the case and tracking down the perpetrator.
