PM opens official launch of sustainable Thainess project

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the official launch of the Than Niyom Yangyuen (Sustainable Thainess) development project on February 9th.

The launch of this ambitious project at Impact Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province was attended by provincial governors, district officers and local administration officials from throughout the country.

The project is to be implemented in four phases:

The first phase which is to be undertaken during Feb 12 and March 20 will focus on finding out the needs of grassroot people in each of over 80,000 villages, analyse their problems and work out projects to meet their needs.

The second phase to be undertaken during March 21-April 10 concerns the building of public awareness and implementation of social contracts while the third and fourth phases to be implemented during April 1-30 and May 1-20 will focus on people’s participation in various projects and thought adjustment.

About 150 billion baht budget will be allocated from the Central Fund to implement all the various projects worked out during the four phases.

Thousands of officials and resource persons will be involved in all four phases.

Prime Minister Prayut pleaded with his critics not to interpret the Thai Niyom Yangyuen as a populist project to woo public support of his government or the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

He maintained that the Thai Niyom Yangyuen development scheme was intended primarily to improve the livelihood the grassroot people so they will be able to stand on their feet, to narrow the gap of disparity and to bring about equal development in all regions.

The prime minister said the project was also aimed to restore reconciliation, to reduce disparity and to make people respect the law with emphasis on equality and fairness.
