Rolling the years back to the good old days

The Royal Plaza, Dusit Palace has turned into a huge vibrant flower garden and harks back to the old Siam days over a hundred years ago when people turned up in traditional Thai dresses and stalls decorated in old style.

Privy Council president Gen Prem Tinsulanonda presided over the opening of the “Oun Ai Rak, Klai Kwam Nao” or “Love and Warmth at Winter’s End” festival on behalf of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun yesterday (Feb 8).

His Majesty the King has graciously initiated the event to reminisce the glorious time during the reign of King Rama 5.

Taking pride of the place is the replica of the Suphannahong royal barge in the center of the breathtaking floral decorations.

Visitors are urged by the government to dress in the old Siam days theme by wearing traditional Thai dress to drop at and mingle amidst the vibrant floral gardens where more than 200,000 flowers have been used to decorate the grounds.

According to authorities, the place is divided into 3 zones to showcase the way of life in the old days, as well as achievements and history of both their majesties King Rama 5 and King Rama 9.

Apart from the flower decorations, visitors could also enjoy the recreation of ancient markets popular in the Rattanakosin Era or visit the traditional handicrafts and Thai homes exhibitions.

More than 36 famous restaurants have made available mouthwatering traditional Thai cuisine and deserts.

On top of this, special traditional folk shows, retro open cinemas and plucking prizes hung on Kalapraphruek tree popular in olden times have also been organized.

All visitors will pass through checking by four screening points before being allowed in. The event will be from Feb 8 to March 11, from 8 am to 6 pm.

Visitors are advised to dress appropriately they have no Thai traditional dresses, and no wearing of slippers, and sleeveless shirts.
