With a tropical storm closing in, Phuket Governor Phakkaphong Tavipatana has issued an official warning that ships “must” remain on shore in every district on the Andaman coast.
“The warning notifications are for controlling, taking care, precaution, reducing risk and preventing an avoidable disaster off the coast of Phuket,” he said.
He’s applying sections of the Virtue of International Security Act 2551, Tourism and Tourist Guide Act 2551 and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act 2550.
“Every ship and vessel carrying passengers for tourism, leisure or recreation in every district connected to the Andaman Sea must remain on shore from 6am today to January 5 at noon, or until the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket issues a new notification.”
