Cholnan Srikaew, the leader of the Pheu Thai party, has rejected a group of “red-shirt” supporters’ suggestion that the party leave the coalition led by the Move Forward party or take the initiative in building a coalition government.
Dr. Cholnan stated in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon that while members of the Pheu Thai fan club have the freedom to express their opinions, Pheu Thai and its coalition partners are required under democratic law to work out their disputes.
Niyom Nopparat led the red-shirt supporters in a rally at the Pheu Thai headquarters where they presented the party with a 5-point plan for consideration.
The group suggested that the Pheu Thai party allow the Move Forward party to form a new government, support its candidate for prime minister, Pita Limjaroenrat, and support the creation of a new Constitution. The group also suggested that, if the Move Forward party is unable to form the government, the Pheu Thai party take the lead or leave the current coalition.
In order to sow discord among the coalition partners, Niyom claimed that “some political groups” had spread false information about the Pheu Thai party.
He argued, using political precedent, that the party with the second-highest number of seats in the House had never formed a coalition government with the party with the most seats.
Anusorn Iamsa-ard, a party-list MP-elect, accepted the idea on behalf of the group.
