With more than 18 Thai and foreign tourists reporting robberies, pickpockets had a field day during Pattaya’s “wan lai” Songkran finale.
While everyone was busy dousing each other with water, robbers made their own splash by working the dense crowd on Beach Road to steal cash, cell phones, credit cards, and other items.
Even though there were hundreds of police officers, volunteers, and city security there, thefts still occurred. Online, visitors bemoaned Pattaya’s “unsafe tourism” and inadequate security.
