Pattaya residents call for enhanced security measures following foreign street altercation

Two Indian men attacked their compatriot, disregarding onlookers in a popular tourist spot. Local residents have expressed their concerns about the recurring violent incidents in the area.

Residents residing in South Pattaya are urging the police to step up security measures to prevent tourist altercations in the region following the emergence of yet another video showing a brawl. In this latest instance, two Indian men were captured repeatedly hitting and assaulting their fellow Indian, who was dressed in black, in the middle of the street while bystanders watched. A Thai woman, believed to be one of the Indian men’s girlfriends, rushed in to intervene.

The incident reportedly took place at 6:10 a.m. on June 29 in front of the Marine Plaza Hotel near the entrance of Soi 16, South Pattaya. This area is a popular destination for tourists day and night, as it leads to the renowned Pattaya Walking Street and is predominantly populated by Indian and Arabic restaurants….

One witness mentioned that while the altercation unfolded, he was seated across the street waiting for passengers. Initially, he observed a group of Indians arguing but no physical violence. As tourists, especially Indians, are known to frequently get into arguments under the influence of alcohol in the area, he didn’t pay much attention. However, when he turned back, he noticed the Indian group had escalated into a physical fight as shown in the video clip.

The cause of the fight remains unclear. Pattaya City Police promptly arrived at the scene to manage the chaotic situation and swiftly brought all involved parties to the police station.

A journalist reached out to the Pattaya Police Station and discovered that the two men were charged with public fighting under Section 372 of the Criminal Code, which penalizes those who engage in noisy altercations or disturbances in public spaces with a fine not exceeding 5,000 baht.

Another altercation involving two Vietnamese men assaulting a fellow countryman in public was also reported. The incident, which included punching and kicking, caused injuries to the victim and occurred in plain view of both local residents and tourists on South Pattaya Road…
