In the Phrai Bueng area of Si Sa Ket province in northeastern Thailand, on Saturday night, a pickup vehicle crashed into a sizable gathering of people attending a Kathin celebration, resulting in nine fatalities and over ten injuries.
To transport the deceased and injured to the district hospital, emergency personnel from the Phrai Bueng district and other surrounding districts raced to the scene.
A total of twenty mopeds sustained damage.
The truck driver was tested for blood alcohol content at the scene and, despite only having minor wounds, was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.24%, well over the legal limit, according to the police.
Before the collision, a number of witnesses reported to the police that they saw the pickup truck appear to be racing another vehicle on the roadway.
