Nigerian Overstayers Arrested in Bangkok, Linked to Cocaine Smuggling
Two Nigerian men were arrested in Bangkok after being implicated in a cocaine smuggling operation by a woman caught attempting to transport drugs into Japan.
The men, identified as Ihejimba Bright Chimezie and Azubuike Chidiebere David, were found to be overstaying their visas and face immediate immigration charges. They are also under investigation for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Immigration and narcotics control police conducted a raid on a condominium located on Navamin-Ram Intra Road in the Kannayao district on Tuesday. According to Pol Maj Gen Phanthana Nuchanart, the deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, the two men were apprehended and charged with overstaying their visas, with further legal action being pursued.
The arrests followed an investigation involving a Thai woman who was detained by Japanese authorities after attempting to smuggle cocaine into Japan. The woman had ingested 59 small packets containing a total of 700 grams of cocaine, worth approximately 2.1 million baht. During questioning, she revealed that she had been in a relationship with one of the two Nigerian men in Bangkok who were allegedly involved in the drug trafficking operation.
Upon receiving a request for cooperation from Japanese officials, Thai authorities tracked the two men to the condominium, leading to their arrest. The investigation continues as both individuals face potential charges related to the smuggling operation.
