MP finds masks that ‘pose cancer risk’

Phalang Pracharat Party MP Sira Jenjaka plans to take a facemask retailer to court because the masks’ price was too high and the quality too low, he said on Wednesday (March 4).

Sira said he bought “two lots” of the protective masks on Tuesday to give away to people in need and paid higher than market price – Bt14 per mask in the first lot, Bt17 in the second.

Suspicious about the quality, he asked Weerachai Phutdhawong, a chemistry lecturer at Kasetsart University, to check them.

“He told me they were a risk to the user’s health and could cause cancer,” Sira said.

He admitted he had not checked out the retailer thoroughly. His assistant found the masks being sold online.

But he believes he can bring the dealer to justice.
