Move to reduce number of beggars

At its first meeting this year, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) yesterday (Jan 7, 2019) discussed measures to reduce the number of beggars in Thailand, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.

The meeting set a three-year campaign (2019-2021) to provide job-training for beggars.

In 2018, job-trainers in Nonthaburi and Trang provinces have provided job training for beggars, who can now make a living by themselves.

Under the law, beggars are liable to one month in jail and a fine of no more than 10,000, or both
