Connor Walsh landed 14 unanswered shots on his opponent Jhonata Vasconselos before the referee intervened, sparking outrage among MMA fans.
Walsh, making his second MMA appearance at the Full Contact Contender 38 event, aimed to solidify his flyweight status in the bout against Vasconselos.
The fight, scheduled for three rounds, saw ‘The Fly Catcher’ Walsh come out aggressively from the start, quickly overpowering his rival.
In shocking footage, Walsh is seen dominating with Vasconselos sprawled on the ground, unable to defend himself. Despite being clearly incapacitated after the fifth or sixth strike, Walsh continued to land heavy blows. The referee finally stepped in after Walsh had delivered 14 punches, many of which were while Vasconselos appeared unconscious.
Fans expressed their disbelief and anger on social media. One fan commented, “14 straight punches? What on earth?” Another questioned, “Wtf is he waiting for? The guy to be dead?”
Calls for the referee to be disciplined flooded social media, with one user suggesting, “That ref should be nowhere near a fight again,” and another adding, “Banned for life. Should never ref again.”
Despite the controversy, the future looks promising for Walsh, who remains unbeaten and is looking to continue his upward trajectory in the MMA world. Fans, however, hope to avoid seeing such dangerous situations in the future, emphasizing the need for referees to protect fighters from unnecessary harm.
