After arriving from Vietnam today (Tuesday), Han Lay, Miss Grand Myanmar 2020, was denied entry to Thailand at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok by immigration officials for not having a passport.
Pol Maj-Gen Archayon Kraithong, spokesman for the Immigration Bureau, said that Han Lay is not in the possession of a passport or any official document equivalent to a passport and, therefore, is not allowed to enter Thailand.
He added, however, that Han Lay was not arrested, but will have to be deported immediately. The latest report suggests that she had been placed under the care of Interpol.
It was subsequently revealed that the junta in Myanmar had revoked her passport, believed to be retaliation for a speech she made about the situation in Myanmar during the Miss Grand International pageant held in Bangkok in March last year.
At the time, the Miss Grand International organization arranged for Han Lay to stay in Thailand for three months at its expense, to ensure her safety, instead of returning to Myanmar.
