Mayweather stops McGregor in the 10th

In what was billed as “The billion Dollar fight”, mainly due to the obscene earnings each fighter took home, Floyd Mayweather remained undefeated, and took his tally to 50-0 after stopping Connor McGregor in the 10th round at the MGM in Las Vegas.

Before the fight, most people had written off Mcgregor’s chances before he had even stepped into the squared circle, including well respected boxing pundits.

As soon as the first bell sounded, though, it was clear that it would be anything but plain sailing for Mayweather, with Mcgregor taking the first 3 rounds on most people’s scorecards.

People should keep in mind too that this was Mcgregor’s first professional boxing match, after making the short trip over from the UFC. Not only that, but in Floyd Mayweather, he was coming up against an unbeaten opponent. An opponent who had stepped into the ring a record matching 49 times without tasting defeat.

Amongst those opponents that have tried but failed when facing Floyd include the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, and Shane Mosely, all regarded as world class boxers.

As the fight moved on into the middle rounds, Mayweather stepped up a gear and the pair were trading blows, with “Money” probably starting to edge it.

As the pair entered the 7th round, it was clear for most to see the that Mcgregor, 11 years Mayweather’s junior at the age of 29, was tiring.

“Money Mayweather” seized full control of the fight in the 9th, and it seemed like only a matter of time before the fight would end. And so it did, half way through the 10th round with the referee bringing a stop to the contest after some heavy blows from Floyd, declaring the winner by TKO.

A lot was made of the referee’s decision being early, but it was clear that Floyd was in full control of the fight at the time.

After all was said and done, both fighters can be happy with their nights worth, with estimated paychecks said to be over 100 Million USD for both fighters, with Floyd’s check said to be nearer 200 Million USD.

McGregor can also go away with his reputation still in take after gaining huge respect from fellow boxing professionals and pundits. He gave a fantastic account of himself considering the circumstances he, admittedly, put himself into.
