Major drug sweep operation leads to substantial seizures in Chonburi amid anti drug campaign

“PPT.2 collaborates with the Provincial Police Region 2’s Provincial Police Force Command, Chonburi Province, the Provincial Administration of Chonburi Province, and the Chonburi Public Health Office to carried out a drug network sweep operation under the Quick Win anti-drug campaign targeting small-scale drug traffickers in Chonburi Province. The event was led by Mr. Thawatchai Sritong, the Governor of Chonburi Province, along with Police Colonel Chatree Sukhasiri, Deputy Commander of the PPR2, Miss Phatthipha Chaempoung, the Director of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 2, Mr. Adirek Un-ot, the Chonburi Provincial Governor’s Secretary, and Mr. Worajak Sataphraphinyot, the Sriracha District Chief and representatives from various related agencies.

The Minister of Justice, General Tawee Sodsong, has mandated an operation to reduce the violence related to drug problems, focusing on immediate and highly beneficial measures to the public. These include reducing the violence stemming from mental health and drug issues in communities, preventing the entry of drugs into the country, and disrupting small-scale drug traffickers in communities. This initiative involves the collaboration of various agencies, including the police, military, public health, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, the Department of Mental Health, and other related organizations. To address drug addiction and related issues by providing treatment and rehabilitation to affected individuals to create safer communities.

Mr. Thawatchai Sritong, the Governor of Chonburi Province, stated that the crackdown operation against small-scale drug traffickers is aimed at community-oriented improvement to solve drug problems by using local strategies tailored to the specific situation in each area. Reducing the level of drug-related violence and instilling confidence in the government’s actions under the leadership of Prime Minister Srettha Taweesin. This effort is expected to show tangible results within one year.

Speaking further, he stated that Chonburi Province, along with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 2 and the Provincial Police Force of Chonburi Province, is carrying out operations under the Quick Win anti-drug campaign to reduce drug-related violence, focusing on measures that can be quickly implemented and provide maximum benefits to the public. This includes reducing violence related to mental health and drug addiction in communities, preventing the entry of drugs into the area, and cracking down on small-scale drug traffickers in the communities.

Result of operations between February 5-7, 2024, in Chonburi Province, are as follows: 153 targets were inspected, resulting in the seizure of 3,347 methamphetamine pills, 30.88 grams of ice (crystalline methamphetamine), and 0.045 grams of ketamine, as well as 8 firearms and the apprehension of 79 drug users and 45 traffickers. Confiscated assets included 3 items with a total value of approximately 771,000 Baht.”
