Legendary luk thung and mor lam singer Pornsak Songsang collapsed at his house in Nong Bua Lam Phu province and died at a hospital on Friday night. He was 60.
His death, posted on Pornsak Songsang Facebook page at 8.40pm on Friday, shocked fans.
The administrator of the Facebook page wrote “[I am] deeply saddened by the loss of Pornsak Songsang. He passed away at 8.40pm [on Friday] after a heart attack. My condolences to his family.’’
Pornsak, whose real name is Boonsao Prachantasen, collapsed in a bathroom at his house in Nong Bua Lam Phu at around 8pm on Friday.
Relatives immediately took him to Nong Bua Lam Phu Hospital, where a medical team tried in vain to save his life. He was pronounced dead at 8.40pm.
His family took him to Ban Kham village in Muang district of this northeastern province for funeral rites.
The popular singer was born in Khon Kaen’s Ban Phai district and grew up in Udon Thani province.
In the past several years, he lived a simple life in Nong Bua Lam Phu with his family.
He was survived by his wife Chulawan Prachantasen and their two daughters and one son.
Pornsak, also known as a man with a dragon tattoo due the mark on his left arm, was popular with luk thung and mor lam fans.
His biggest hits include Sao Jan Kang Koab and Mee Mia Dek. He had concerts across the country and abroad.
