After hijacking a police car in Bangkok on Tuesday, September 12th, a Japanese tourist who was wanted in Japan for a fraud case worth more than 20 million yen (4.8 million baht) was captured in Pattaya.
The Pattaya Police cornered the tourist, Mr. Yuki Yagi, 35, in a hotel room on the fifth floor in Central Pattaya’s Banglamung district in Chonburi Province. Police did not disclose the hotel’s name.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Immigration Bureau, Pol. Maj. Gen. Thanit Thaiwatcharamat, told the local media that Mr. Yuki was wanted in his native nation for his suspected involvement in an embezzlement case with financial losses reaching more than 20 million yen, or roughly 4.8 million baht.
The police detained Mr. Yuki in Bangkok on September 7th and transported him to the Ratchada Criminal Court for legal proceedings after communicating with the Japanese Embassy. The man convinced the official driving the car to get a wheelchair for him at the Suan Phlu Immigration Office after leaving the court, claiming he was having leg discomfort and couldn’t walk.
The cop got out of the car after becoming persuaded. The Japanese man sprang out of the back of the car at this point, took the wheel, and started the car. Additionally, he ran into the Immigration Office gate guards, causing them to sustain minor injuries, before fleeing to Pattaya. On September 9th, at approximately 11:17, this incident took place.
Further investigation revealed that Mr. Yuki had also overstayed his visa for a period that wasn’t disclosed. Currently being held by Pattaya Police, he will be extradited from the nation after potentially being charged in Thailand for escaping from detention.
