Israeli Tourist Defecates in Pattaya Taxi, Initially Offers 300 Baht Compensation
PATTAYA, Thailand – A dispute broke out in Pattaya after an Israeli tourist defecated in a taxi and initially refused to pay the cleaning fee, offering just 300 baht. The situation was eventually resolved with police intervention, leading to a 1,500 baht compensation for the driver.
The incident occurred on March 19 when 32-year-old Thai taxi driver Norraphat called Mueang Pattaya Police Station for assistance outside a shopping mall in northern Pattaya. Upon arrival, officers found Norraphat arguing with one of the Israeli passengers, while the other—who had soiled himself—stood across the street with his walking frame, his leg still visibly dirty.
Norraphat explained that he had picked up the two tourists near the shopping mall, intending to take them to Soi Buakhao in southern Pattaya. However, midway through the ride, he noticed a foul odor and discovered that one of the passengers had defecated in the car. He immediately pulled over to clean the mess and demanded 1,500 baht for the cleaning cost. The tourists, however, refused to pay the full amount, insisting on offering only 300 baht.
To resolve the dispute, Norraphat contacted the police. After negotiations, the Israeli tourists agreed to pay the full 1,500 baht before both parties went their separate ways.
Incidents involving disruptive Israeli tourists in Thailand are not uncommon. Just last month, four Israeli men were fined 3,000 baht each for causing disturbances at a hospital in northern Thailand. In a similar incident last November, a motorcycle taxi driver in Bangkok claimed that a passenger, believed to be a transwoman, urinated on his seat before refusing to pay the fare.
This latest episode has once again highlighted concerns over inappropriate tourist behavior in Thailand
