HUNGARIAN man wanted in his country on insurance fraud and forgery charges was arrested in Bangkok today (Jan. 18) for overstaying his visa for over 10 years, Naewna newspaper said.
Immigration police said at a press briefing that the Hungarian man, only identified as Mr. Lajos, 48, was arrested at a condominium on New Petchburi Road.
This followed a tip-off by a police spy that he had spotted a man who looked similar to a photo of a suspect wanted by the Hungarian police and posted at their website in New Petchburi road area.
The police Foreign Affairs Division had received a letter dated July 13, 2011 informing them that a Hungarian court had issued an arrest warrant for the suspect on insurance fraud and forgery charges with this amounting to 401,394,145 Hungarian forint or over 42 million Thai baht.
Lajos entered Thailand on March 16, 2010 on a 60-day tourist visa and was allowed to stay until May 14, 2010 but overstayed for 4,254 days.
After his arrest at his condominium he was brought to Immigration Bureau for further legal action.
